Change Takes Action: Why Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Builds More Than Dollars
At The Cupcake Girls, we believe in taking action to make a difference. From September 12th through October 3rd, our Change Takes Action peer-to-peer fundraising campaign invites us to come together as a community to connect, to inspire, and to build impact. This campaign isn’t only about raising funds; it’s about deepening our connections, expanding our reach, and fueling the kind of care that lasts.
Peer-to-peer fundraising isn’t just a way to meet a financial goal. It’s personal, relational, and transformative.
What Is Peer-to-Peer Fundraising (And Why Does It Work)?
At its core, peer-to-peer fundraising is simple: people raise funds by sharing a cause they believe in with their own networks. For us that begins with creating a personal fundraising page and sending it to friends, family, and coworkers when accessible.
But what makes it effective isn’t the tool, it’s the trust.
Personal stories build credibility. When someone shares why this work matters to them, people listen.
Connections open new doors. Each effort extends beyond our usual circles, reaching friends, families, and communities who might not have heard about this work otherwise.
Impact multiplies. Every conversation plants a seed, every share sparks awareness, every donation builds momentum.
Peer-to-peer fundraising is proof that when one person takes action, it can ripple far beyond what they imagine.
For Us, It’s More Than Fundraising
Peer-to-peer fundraising represents something much bigger than reaching a campaign goal. It’s about creating a living, breathing network of care and solidarity. Every dollar raised directly fuels connection to holistic services that are both trauma-informed and sex work–informed, ensuring that participants receive support that honors their lived experiences. This means access to resources that respond to real needs, and the assurance that when someone reaches out, they’ll be met with compassion instead of judgment.
But the impact goes far beyond the financial. Whenever someone shares the campaign, they invite new people into this mission, opening the door for more minds to connect with the work, recognizing the collective power we hold to create change. A single act of sharing doesn’t just raise awareness; it reminds all of us that change grows in community. And when someone steps up to fundraise on our behalf, they become part of a growing circle of advocacy.
What Your Impact Looks Like
The funds raised through peer-to-peer fundraising translate directly into care that participants can feel in their everyday lives:
Weekly accountability check-ins with participants. These check-ins provide a source of encouragement and support. Whether it’s celebrating a win or helping navigate the resources they need, it will remind the participants they’re not alone.
Mental health referrals, family support, and advocacy. We connect participants to vetted sex work and trauma-informed therapists and provide resources for family care. Care is holistic because healing doesn’t happen in isolation.
Direct resources for those facing housing instability or homelessness. Funds help us provide immediate relief, from emergency hotel stays to connecting participants with long-term housing options. Having a safe place to rest is often the first step toward stability.
A community where people are met exactly where they are without judgment. Every dollar helps us sustain a culture of compassion. Here, participants can show up authentically, without fear of shame or punishment, and find support that respects their situation.
And if starting your own fundraiser isn’t for you, there are still meaningful ways to support by donating directly, sharing our campaign page with your community, or simply starting conversations about why this mission matters.
Change Really Does Take Action
You don’t need a big platform to make a big impact; you just have a desire to share what matters. Every voice, every action, every gift pushes this movement forward. Change doesn’t come from one person alone; it comes from all of us deciding that care and community are worth fighting for.
We invite you to join us by giving in the way that feels right for you. Whether that’s a monthly donation, a one-time gift, or simply sharing our content with others, your involvement helps sustain the work of providing care that is nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, and rooted in community. Even the smallest act makes a difference when it’s part of something larger.
However you choose to participate, know that you’re helping to grow a community committed to meeting people where they are.
